Wood American Flags, Made Right Here in the Birmingham Area
If you're in the Birmingham area and you've been looking at wood American flags online, here's something worth knowing: there's a shop building them right up the road. Mine. I'm Jonathan, and I build handcrafted wood flags in my garage in Trussville, Alabama — about 15 minutes northeast of downtown Birmingham.
I'm an Army veteran (1999–2003, communications, stationed in Mannheim, Germany), and this is a true one-man shop. Every flag starts as raw lumber. I cut it, sand it, stain it, stencil and spray-paint the stars, and seal it with poly — about 6 to 8 hours of work per flag, no factory, no team, no shortcuts.
Serving the Birmingham metro
Most of my flags ship all over the country, but a piece built in your own backyard means a little more on the wall. I regularly build for folks in:
- Trussville — home base
- Birmingham
- Hoover, Vestavia Hills & Homewood
- Leeds, Moody & Pell City
- …and everywhere else in Alabama and the US — shipping is free either way
Local pickup and hand-delivery available. If you're in the Birmingham metro, you don't have to wait on a shipping box — you're welcome to pick your flag up here in Trussville, or I'll hand-deliver it to you around Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Leeds, Moody, and Pell City. Just mention it when you reach out.
Wood Alabama state flags, too
Being from here, I couldn't help myself: alongside the American flags, I also build wood Alabama state flags — the crimson cross of St. Andrew on whitewashed hardwood planks. Some folks order the pair as a set; it looks sharp side by side. If you want one, reach out through the contact form and tell me what you're thinking.
What a flag from this shop costs
The 3-foot handcrafted wood American flag is $349 with free shipping, built to order in about 4 weeks. You can see photos, specs, and customer words on the flag page. Curious how each flag gets its look? I torch-burn and seal every one — here's the whole finish.
Why local matters for a thing like this
A flag is a story object. When somebody asks about the one on your wall, "a veteran up in Trussville built that by hand" is a better story than "it came from a warehouse." You're also keeping a small Alabama shop building — and I don't take that lightly. Every order is one guy in a garage, grateful for the work.
