I'm Jonathan, and I'm a veteran myself — U.S. Army, 1999 to 2003, 31R communications, stationed in Mannheim, Germany. These days I build wood flags by hand in my garage in Trussville, Alabama, and a huge number of them are bought as gifts for veterans and military families. Why a handcrafted wood flag, specifically
A mass-produced flag is thin, light, and made by a machine that's never thought about what the flag stands for. A handcrafted one is the opposite. Mine are built from real lumber, the stripes hand-stained, the stars stenciled and spray-painted, every one sealed with poly to last a lifetime.
That difference is felt, not just seen. Veterans know the difference between something made for them and something made by hand because it matters. The weight of real wood carries weight in every sense.
